Overlea Community Tree Lighting

December 13th was a fantastic night in Overlea! The Community Tree Lighting event was a big success with more then 200 residents coming to see the beautiful tree lit and Santa arrive by sled on the Rosedale Volunteer Fire Company truck. Many people, businesses and organizations came together to make this event shine! A BIG thanks to event organizer Heather Lassahn of Lassahn Funeral Homes. A big shout out to Sippel Casper G Electric who provided the electrical assistance and Parkville Home Depot which provided the more than 400 feet of light for the 30 foot tree in front of the Overlea Community Center.

Singing Christmas Carols at the event was the St. Michael the Archangel Parish, Overlea Children’s Choir under the direction of Nick Zurowski, Choir Master. Heavenly melodies were heard in Overlea! And delicious hot chocolate and cookies were lovingly provided by Central Alarmers.

John DiSciorio, Managing Partner of Carrabba’s Italian Grill- Overlea had this to say about the event, “ There is nothing better then having a restaurant in a real neighborhood with families and a sense of community. I was happy to provide the cannolis at the Tree Lighting event- and I know the cannolis- all 500 of them- were really enjoyed!”

Mary and Will Geddes of Geddes School Supplies where equally happy to participate. “We were so pleased that our business is located in such a family friendly, community oriented neighborhood and honored to have participated in the Overlea Tree Lighting event this year, we loved being able to provide small gifts for all the children.”

Heather Lassahn is already planning for next year! Each of the generous sponsors are already on board. The Overlea Community Association is proud to produce such a fun, family friendly event and looks forward to next year. See you at the center on December 12th!

Christmas in Overlea

On December 19th, on the steps of Overlea Chapel United Methodist Church, residents gathered from the neighborhood and came together to sing Christmas carols from the beautiful front steps of the church. It was a cold, clear night and Overlea was transformed into a Christmas evening of delight as lovely melodies of Christmas washed over the community! The ladies of the church provided delicious hot chocolate and homemade cookies for everyone. This annual event is a treasured delight enjoyed by all! To learn more about the church, visit
